About CostORun
Our Mission
Transparent, calculator-first electricity running cost estimates using official U.S. government data.
CostORun is an independent reference for residential appliance energy costs. Wattage ranges and methodology cite the U.S. Department of Energy, ENERGY STAR, and EIA retail electricity prices unless otherwise noted.
Why Trust CostORun?
Official Data Sources
All electricity rates come from the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), the official source for U.S. energy statistics. Wattage data references DOE Energy Saver and ENERGY STAR certified product databases.
Transparent Methodology
We use standard electrical formulas (kWh = Watts × Hours / 1000) and document all assumptions.
See our methodology page for full details.
Regular Updates
Electricity rates are refreshed monthly from EIA data. Appliance wattage ranges are reviewed against manufacturer specs and ENERGY STAR databases quarterly.
No Hidden Agenda
CostORun is an independent resource. We don't sell appliances or electricity. Our goal is simply to help you understand and reduce your energy costs.
